Caring for the Whole Person
In the Cancer Care Program, professionals understand that a cancer diagnosis impacts people physically and emotionally and its effects go beyond the person with the diagnosis, challenging families as well as friends. Oncology social workers provide individual and family counseling in addition to other services which can help reduce stress for you and your family. Our team of professionals is expertly trained to assist and guide you and your loved ones through the complexities of life following a cancer diagnosis.
Here are a few ways we can help:
- Provide emotional support to people with cancer AND their families & caregivers.
- Assist with decision-making, problem solving, coordination and adaptation to complex issues related to health are needs.
- Educate patients and families about cancer and treatments, as well as resources for support.
- Discuss quality of life decisions in coordination with a person's goals of treatment.
- Provide counseling, education, information, and referrals to community resources, including support groups.
- Work as a liaison between people with cancer and the medical team
- Help people navigate the health care system
