Judie Brock, Certified Nurse Midwife
I became a midwife at the height of the feminist movement. One of the most rewarding aspects of my career has been my involvement with Cooley Dickinson Hospital's midwifery program. I was the first midwife at Cooley Dickinson in 1982 and was part of the evolution current practice, the Center for Midwifery Care. I have never been happier in my calling. I am thankful to be part of a forward-thinking group of providers and staff who share a vision that goes beyond the traditional model of care.
The pregnancy and birth journey is my special joy; it is my privilege to share this time with women and families. I've attended more than 3,000 births; each is unique and amazing in its own way. I am especially honored that all three of my grandchildren have been born into my hands. |

Pam Drexler-Lopez, Certified Nurse Midwife
My first pregnancy sparked my interest in midwifery and women's health. More than 30 years later, the journey of pregnancy and birth continue to draw me so deeply.
I went to nursing school to follow that spark, and while my children were young I worked at Cooley Dickinson Hospital in the Childbirth Center. Later, I returned to school to study midwifery. More than 1,000 babies and Pap smears later, I still find this work challenging and satisfying. I hope that every woman leaves our care with a little more confidence and more trust in her ability to make good decisions for herself, and if she is pregnant, for her baby. I feel very lucky to be part of a practice that is supportive, and I know that those who come to us for care are in very good hands.

Annie Heath, Certified Nurse Midwife
I was 26 years old when I knew I wanted to be a midwife. I was living in the Amazon jungle of Equador, and I knew that if I wanted to make a contribution to the health of families, I needed to know how to help other women care for themselves.
More than 20 years later, I am still learning and growing as the women I care for teach me how to support them during some of the most challenging transitions of their lives. Pregnancy, birth, infertility, miscarriage, menopause or an annual exam are opportunities for women to voice their concerns and to make changes to improve their health. As a midwife, it is my role to be a resource for the women of our community, to listen carefully, provide current information and skills, and help women navigate healthcare issues. I speak Spanish, live in Amherst, and have a whole bunch of kids!

Megan Sloat, Certified Nurse Midwife
I recently moved to Northampton, and I am thrilled to be part of this amazing midwifery practice. I began my midwifery journey as an English teacher in Africa where I was first exposed to how desparately women needed access to quality health care. I have since worked as a doula, studied international maternal and child public health, and was fortunate to learn a lot from the people I encountered. I believe the care that every family receives that involves reproductive health, pregnancy and birth has profound and lasting effects.

Tucker Kueny, MD, OB/GYN
I have worked closely with midwives for my entire career. I appreciate the expertise, care and support that midwives bring to women during pregnancy, birth, and beyond. My role in our midwifer practice is to provide consultation and support to the midwives and women, as needed.
In addition to my role as the Center's medical director, I am a practicing obstetrician/gynecologist. My areas of special interest include minimally invasive gynecologic surgery using the da VinciS Surgical System, and treating pelvic floor disorders, including female incontinence.

Our Staff

Holly Baird, Office Coordinator
I've worked in the medical office environment for 10 years and have been with Center for Midwifery Care since June 2008. I am a women's college graduate who decided early on that a satisfying career would be one in which serves women and children in a positive way. One of the greatest perks of my job is when I see our moms and their families in the community, whether it be while playing with my son at Look Park, grocery shopping, or dining with my husband at a local restaurant. It makes me proud and rooted in this community to be able to remember their children's names and to chat about their lives. I love it here.

Kate Bohne, IBCLC, Program Coordinator
I chose the Center for Midwifery Care for my prenatal care and birth experiences. It feels like a natural extension of that momentous transformation to now be a part of this amazing team where I help enhance other parents’ prenatal and postpartum experiences.
I also work as a lactation consultant, and completed the International Board Certification credentialing process the same year my son was born. My experiences as a parent, peer, and breastfeeding advocate continue to evolve and augment one another. I am honored to be part of the wonderful birthing and parenting community in the Pioneer Valley.

Ann Buscemi, Childbirth Educator, Certified Hypnotherapist
Working with families throughout the Pioneer Valley before, during, and after their births has been my job, my passion, and my delight for more than 17 years. As a childbirth educator, a birth and postpartum doula, a certified hypnotherapist and the author of the program, Deep Relaxation for Pregnancy, Birth and Beyond, I have always advocated for women and their families. The premise of all my work is each individual's right to informed consent, which is, at its very best, supporting women and families as they explore and choose options for their births.
I hold a variety of certifications in my field. I am certified to teach through the International Association of Childbirth Educators (IACE). I earned doula certification through Doulas of North America (DONA), hypnotherapy certification through The New England Ethical Hyponosis Institute, and I am a member of the National Guild of Hypnotists and the International Association of Counselors and Therapists.
In our crazy, busy, need-to-know and have-to-do-it-all world I believe that I impart confidence, respect, peace, and a deep sense of caring to all the families with whom I work.
