History 1975 - 2000
Sensitive to the need for more sophisticated physical and occupational therapy services, particularly for outpatients, the hospital embarked on a major expansion of its rehab facilities in 1974. Concerned about providing the earliest possible detection of breast cancer, in 1983 CDH dedicated a new area of its X-ray Department specifically as a mammography suite. To further it cancer detection and general diagnostic services, the hospital acquired a mobile CT Scanner in 1983.

Cooley Dickinson Hospital has not only been in the forefront of medical technologies, but has also always been an institution keen on creating administrative structure and alliances that make the hospital operate the best way it can with the opportunities available. In 1984 Cooley Dickinson Health Care Corporation was created. The change removed the non-medical functions from the operation of the hospital and gave the institution more flexibility in serving the needs of the community. Since 1993, Cooley Dickinson has had a unique relationship with the Dartmouth Hitchcock Alliance. The partnership has allowed Cooley Dickinson to benefit from an expanded network of physicians, and cost of supplies and loans for capital projects.

In 2000 Cooley Dickinson Hospital ended a three year 8.8 fund-raising campaign million dollar campaign for the expansion of the hospital. The pledges and gift to the campaign helped to fund the 24 million renovations. The improvements included a state-of-the-art Childbirth Center and Critical Care Unit, expanded Emergency Department and Surgical Day Care Unit, new central sterile supply department, conveniently located and centralized outpatient services, renovated coffee shop and gift shop, and a more accessible hospital entrance.
