Cooley Dickinson is a hospital that knows what it is... a first-rate community hospital serving a great community. Our medical surgical areas care for members of our community with skill and compassion. There is great responsibility, challenge and reward working as a nurse in a medical surgical area and this is true at Cooley Dickinson. It is an institution which knows its strengths and its expertise. Our staff and referring physicians are experts at caring for people with a multitude of diseases and surgical issues and often collaborate with tertiary centers outside of the immediate area so that community members have the best care available.
Cooley Dickinson (CDH) has initiated an aggressive goal to become a nationally known mentor community hospital. An Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) member institution, CDH is participating in the TCAB Program (Transforming Care at the Bedside). Using the clinical microsystems approach, we are evaluating our processes, seeking to optimize the delivery of safe and reliable patient-centered care which is free of waste and promotes continual flow, thus creating a joyful and supportive work environment.
The recently opened new building on campus includes a medical surgical unit with 32 single bed rooms which provides for the restful and quite environment patients need to heal. This has allowed us to begin an aggressive program of renovation to the other medical surgical areas to create a more healing environment.
Our staff reflects a balance of experience and recent graduates. We provide a structured 12 week training preceptor program that helps the new RN hone technical skills and confidence. Additionally, we have an aggressive program of posting new openings so that current RN’s have excellent opportunities to seek out new opportunities throughout the organization. The clinical and programmatic expansion of Cooley Dickinson Hospital continues to provide a nurturing environment for all staff to achieve both personal and professional growth.
