Cooley Dickinson Welcomes New Emergency Department Physicians

R.F. Conway, MD, medical director of Cooley Dickinson Hospital’s Emergency Department (ED) announces two physicians who this month received their privileges to practice in the hospital’s ED.

Jill McGovern, MD received her medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine and completed her residency in emergency medicine at Baystate Medical Center in 2006. Since completing her residency, McGovern has worked full-time in emergency medicine at St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown, Maryland.

Mehdi Sattari, MD, received his medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and completed his residency in emergency medicine at the University of New Mexico in 2004. Since completing his residency, Sattari has worked full time in emergency medicine at Lewis-Gale Medical Center in Salem, Virginia.

McGovern and Sattari join a team of 13 emergency department physicians who from October 1, 2006 through September 30, 2007 treated more than 37,300 patients.

Cooley Dickinson Hospital’s Emergency Department is open ‘round-the-clock, 365 days per year. Urgent care or Fast Track services within the ED are available from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. seven days a week. People experiencing minor medical emergencies such as sore throats, upper respiratory conditions, eye and ear infections, the flu, sprains and other minor medical emergencies are treated within an average of 90 minutes of their arrival at Fast Track.

People experiencing more serious trauma are cared for in other areas of the hospital’s 22-bed ED. When patients come to the ED, their treatment team includes registered nurses and physicians who are certified by national boards of Emergency Medicine.

Cooley Dickinson’s ED is supported by the hospital’s onsite laboratory and imaging/radiology services. In addition, Cooley Dickinson’s ED has access to multidisciplinary health care teams that can be mobilized in minutes to respond to life-threatening conditions such as stroke. Cooley Dickinson Hospital has been a certified Department of Public Health primary stroke center since 2005.

The ED is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
