Dr. Janice Pegels, MD has a longstanding interest in integrative medicine. In her practice, she combines natural and conventional methods of healing to help patients achieve optimal health. She especially enjoys empowering patients to adopt healthy and balanced lifestyle practices that nurture body, mind, and spirit. She enjoys discussing nutrition and believes that optimal digestive health is crucial to wellness.
From 2013-2015, Janice worked at Visions Health Center in Boston where she provided functional medicine and primary care. During this time, she studied extensively with the Institute for Functional Medicine, and attended conferences on thyroid, adrenal, and bioidentical hormones, gastrointestinal health, neurologic health, and autoimmune disorders. Prior to this time, Dr. Pegels had a private practice in Binghamton, NY focusing on holistic medicine. Her medical background also includes: teaching at a family medicine residency, working in college student health, and serving as a practice mentor and consultant to other integrative medicine providers.
Janice is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Medicine, and is board certified in Family Medicine, Integrative and Holistic Medicine, and Medical Acupuncture. She completed her undergraduate education at Cornell University where she studied developmental psychology and then attended SUNY Buffalo School of Medicine followed by a residency in Family Medicine in Binghamton, NY. In addition, Janice studied acupuncture at the Helms Medical Institute and supervised an acupuncture clinic for family medicine residents for two years. Dr. Pegels is also a certified Reiki practitioner.
