Dr. Kurtis graduated Brandeis University in 1968 and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1972. He interned at San Francisco General Hospital and then completed his orthopedic residency at Duke University Medical Center.

He is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons and a member of several professional societies. He has been married for 35 years and has two children who, he says, are much smarter than he is.
