How old do I need to be to volunteer?

You need to be at least 15 years old.

How do I get a volunteer application?

Call our office and leave your name and address and phone number. Please speak slowly and clearly. We will send you an application in the mail, along with a list of our current openings. Or just fill out the application online. We will call you for an appointment.

Can we volunteer as a group?

Unfortunately, we do not have group opportunities.

How long do I have to commit to?

You will need to give at least 6 months, although we do accept semester commitments for students. Volunteers usually help one 4 hour shift per week.

I need to complete hours for a court-ordered community service, can you help?

We take very few court-ordered volunteers. Each volunteer must pass a Criminal Records check first.

Do you have opportunities on the weekend?

We frequently need weekend volunteers for the Coffee and Gift Shops.

Do you have programs for high school students?

Yes, we have a Summer Junior Volunteer program which welcomes high school students. Applications for the Summer Program are sent to Guidance Counselors at each school in April. Check with your school or call our office for a Summer Junior Volunteer Program Application

We also accept students for after school placement in some areas of the hospital. Internships for high school seniors are available on a limited basis.

I am a college student and am getting credit to volunteer or need an internship, whom do I contact?

Please contact Volunteer and Student Services at 413-582-2241 if you will receive credit for your volunteer time. This process requires a separate application and a contract with your school. Please apply at least 4 weeks in advance of your start date. Prior approval by the department manager is required in advance of submitting an application.
