The Cooley Dickinson Hospital Auxiliary today announced an additional $200,000 gift to its existing commitment of $300,000 to the Mass General Cancer Center at Cooley Dickinson Hospital.
"Plans for the Cancer Center are moving forward and the Auxiliary membership decided it would step up its support for the Center," said Pauline Marney, president of the Cooley Dickinson Auxiliary. The Cancer Center's main reception area will be named in recognition of the Cooley Dickinson Hospital Auxiliary's gift.
When you buy a sandwich in the Coffee Shop or purchase items in the Gift Shop, you are helping the Auxiliary. The Auxiliary's financial gifts bolster the hospital's ability to deepen and extend the level of care it provides.
When asked why the Auxiliary chose to support a reception area, Marney said the Auxiliary wants to be associated with a visible place where patients and families spend time.
"The Auxiliary is comprised of members of this community. And it is funds from the community that support the work we do, so it makes sense to give back in a visible way."
Paul Higgins, chief development officer at Cooley Dickinson, praises the additional gift. "The Auxiliary's support is timely and very much appreciated, especially as plans take shape for the new center."
Starting later this year, Cooley Dickinson and the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center will bring expanded oncology services to the Pioneer Valley through the Mass General Cancer Center at Cooley Dickinson.
The new venture will broaden the depth and breadth of cancer services at Cooley Dickinson, which has collaborated with the Mass General Cancer Center since 2009. In 2015, the Mass General Cancer Center at Cooley Dickinson will relocate to a new facility in the North Building of Cooley Dickinson's Locust Street campus.
The Auxiliary of Cooley Dickinson Hospital is comprised of more than 400 members. In existence since 1904, the Auxiliary's mission is to support patient and volunteer services, to advocate for the hospital, and to raise funds. Funds raised by the Auxiliary come from the CDH Coffee and Gift Shops, sales from art exhibits, annual events such as the Fashion Show, memorial gifts; and the Trees of Love and Thanksgiving project.
