The physicians use minimally invasive imaging and guidance technology to treat peripheral vascular disease (PAD)/peripheral vascular disease (PVD), certain types of cancer, uterine fibriods and other conditions. Procedures are performed in Cooley Dickinson's cardiovascular services suite.

Dr. GatesDr. GatesDr. Gates is a board-certified radiologist with a certificate of additional qualification in vascular and interventional radiology. She earned her medical degree at Boston University School of Medicine. She completed her residency in Diagnostic Radiology at Deaconess Hospital and Harvard Medical School. Dr. Gates also completed a fellowship in Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology at the Deaconess Hospital, Boston.

Range of Cooley Dickinson Vascular and Interventional Radiology Procedures

Diagnostic

  • Arteriography: Aortography, Adrenal, Bronchial, Carotid/Vertebral, Cerebral, Femoral, Mesenteric, Pelvic, Peripheral, Renal.         
  • Biliary: Biliary Whittaker Test, Percutaneous cholangiography, Post-procedural cholangiography.
  • Renal: Antegrade pyelogram, Renal Whittaker Test, Percutaneous pyelography
  • Venography: Lower extremity descending, Mesenteric/Portal, Renal, Upper extremity, dialysis fistula/graft.
  • Venous sampling: Adrenal, Hepatic/Portal/Mesenteric (+/ stimulation), Parathyroid, Renal vein.
  • Image Guided (Fluoroscopy, Ultrasound and CT): Biopsies, drainage and other IR related tube injections, IR related tube changes.

Therapeutic Interventional

  • Biliary:  Cholecystostomy, Internal/external stents, Internal stent, Percutaneous drainage, stone extraction or dissolution.
  • Embolization: Arteriovenous malformations, Aneurysm (non-cerebral), Bronchial, Chemoembolization (Liver, adrenal, renal etc), Fibroid, GI Hemorrhage, Hepatic, Pelvic, Peripheral, Pulmonary, Renal, Splenic, Trauma, Tumor/Metastases.
  • Gastrointestinal: Gastrojejunostomy, Jejunostomy, Percutaneous gastrostomy, Enteric Stenting, Cecostomy.
  • Renal: Nephrostomy, Ureteric stent, Nephroureteral stent.
  • Vascular: Aortic fenestration, Angioplasty (arterial, graft and venous), Cryoplasty, Caval filters (IVC, SVC, temporary), Stenting and stent grafting (arterial and venous including carotids), Thrombolysis (pharmacological lytic, mechanical; systemic arterial, pulmonary, arterial bypass grafts, dialysis access and venous)
  • TIPSS and TIPSS revision
  • Venous access with: Tunneled catheters: Hickman, Permacath, PICC SL or DL, conventional or Tunneled, Ports, Difficult venous access Vasodilator/vasoconstrictor/chemotherapy infusion
  • Long term tunneled catheter drainage for: Pleural effusion or ascites (Pleurx), Ascites (Denver shunt, tunneled paracentesis catheters).
  • RF Vein Ablation for varicose veins
  • Kyphoplasty
  • Formal or informal second opinions on CTA, MRA, cardiac CTA, Cardiac MRI/MRA, MRCP and comments on suitability for interventions
