Dr. HartnellDr. George G. Hartnell, FRCP, FRCR, an interventional radiologist and a member of Cooley Dickinson Hospital's Medical Staff has successfully completed the American Board of Vascular Medicine Endovascular Medicine Exam.
 
Hartnell is now an Endovascular Diplomate of the American Board of Vascular Medicine (ABVM).  This designation means that Hartnell has acquired the ABVM's required training and experience and passed a rigorous examination. According to ABVM's Web site, "This demonstrates a high standard of physician excellence."
 
Hartnell's new endovascular diplomate status is yet another sign of his continued commitment to professional development in vascular medicine. He is the first physician at Cooley Dickinson to earn the distinction, and he is among a handful of physicians in the Pioneer Valley to have done so.
 
Last year, Hartnell became one of the first physicians in North America to earn certification in cardiovascular computer tomography and the first at Cooley Dickinson Hospital.
 
At Cooley Dickinson Hospital, Hartnell oversees the Vascular and Special Interventions program and uses minimally invasive technology to treat certain cancers, peripheral artery disease, uterine fibroids and other conditions.
 
Hartnell is a cardiovascular specialist with more than 25 years experience in vascular and interventional radiology. He is board certified in diagnostic radiology and holds a certificate of Additional Qualification in vascular and interventional radiology. He is also a Fellow of the Society of Interventional Radiology and of the American College of Cardiology.
 
Hartnell also has held academic appointments at Harvard Medical School, Johns Hopkins and was most recently a Professor of Radiology at Tufts University School of Medicine.
 
Hartnell earned his medical degree from the University of Bristol Medical School in the United Kingdom. He completed internships, residencies and fellowships in the United Kingdom.
