Annual Trees of Love Project kicks off the season of thanksgiving

The lights that adorn the trees outside of Cooley Dickinson Hospital's main entrance were lit on Nov. 22 as the official start of the hospital's annual Trees of Love and Thanksgiving project.

Karen Marney, chairperson of the Trees of Love & Thanksgiving Committee, says each gift of $10 sponsors a light in honor of or in memory of someone special. Community members are encouraged to pay tribute to someone special by donating to this project. The people being honored and the donors are posted in the main entrance lobby.

The goal this year's project is to purchase sofa beds for the hospital's Critical Care Unit. For those people who need to spend the night with a loved one, the sofa beds will be used by family members of critically ill patients who are admitted to this unit. The dedicated CCU staff are focused on providing patient and family-centered care and welcome family and visitors 24 hours a day/seven days a week.

Proceeds from last year's fundraiser enabled the purchase of a computer upgrade for the Beam Scanner in Radiation Oncology. Proceeds were also used to help purchase needed equipment for Patient Care Services, make a contribution to the new Center for Midwifery Care and purchase 10 infant car beds for underweight newborns.

The Trees of Love & Thanksgiving project is sponsored by the Pastoral Care Committee and the CDH Auxiliary. Donor forms are available at all hospital information desks and in the Pastoral Care Office, or to download a form visit www.cooley-dickinson.org/auxiliary/trees-of-love-and-thanksgiving.
