Once you are settled in your room, a nurse will take your temperature and blood pressure and check your weight. The nurse will also discuss with you any current medications you are taking and answer any questions you may have about your room or your stay.
Calling a Nurse
To request assistance from a nurse, simply push the call button at your bedside. Once the nursing station is alerted to your need for assistance, a staff member will respond to your signal as soon as possible.
Hospital Beds
Your hospital bed is likely to be higher and narrower than your bed at home. It is operated electrically; your nurse will explain its operation to you. Bedside rails are for your protection and may be raised during the night or while you are resting.
Televisions
Color televisions are located in each room and are provided at no cost to you because of the generosity of our Auxiliary. Please be considerate of other patients by keeping the volume of your television set low and by turning it off at bedtime.
Telephones
There is a telephone at each bedside. Local service is provided by the hospital at no charge. If you need to place a long distance call, please see the directions on your telephone.
Room Temperature
The rooms in the hospital are centrally heated and air conditioned. If your room is uncomfortable, please notify the nursing staff.
Valuables
Patients are asked not to bring valuable items to the hospital. The hospital takes no responsibility for items of value kept in your room.
Lost and Found
If you have lost an item, we will make every effort to help you find it. Please notify your nurse and he or she will report it to the appropriate hospital department.
Newspapers
Daily and Sunday newspapers may be purchased from a news carrier who visits patient floors or from vending machines located at the Locust Street entrance.
Meals
Our Nutrition Services Department makes every effort to offer meals that are healthy and appetizing, while giving you a choice of menu each day. On your day of arrival and on the following morning, you will receive pre-selected meals. Thereafter, a menu will be brought to you so that you may choose subsequent meals. If your physician has requested a special diet for you, a dietitian will visit your room to help you make appropriate choices.
Due to the many patients served at each mealtime, exact times may vary from day to day. If you miss a meal because of a test or late admission, your nurse can arrange to have a meal tray delivered to your room. Meal times are as follows.
- Breakfast - 7:45 a.m. to 8:45 a.m.
- Lunch - 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
- Dinner - 4:45 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.
Guest Trays
If you have a visitor who would like to join you for a meal in your room, please call a day ahead, if possible, to arrange it. A nominal fee is charged. Please see a nurse about such requests.
Nutrition Counseling
You may arrange for individual, family or group nutrition counseling at your convenience by asking a dietitian, dietary supervisor or your nurse.
