Whether your visit was pre-scheduled or followed an Emergency Department or observation status visit, you will go through a standard registration procedure. A patient access services coordinator will review information such as your current age, address and health insurance coverage. Each time you visit, this information is updated. Your insurer's authorization forms may be checked, and any other required paperwork is handled. These procedures enable us to expedite billing and respond to any questions you may have about the process.
When You Arrive
Upon admission, you will be brought to a room and a floor that meet your special needs. If such a room is not immediately available, you may be taken to another room and later moved to a more suitable location. At Cooley Dickinson, we have private rooms and semi-private rooms that accommodate two or more patients. If you request a private room, please be aware that many insurers do not cover the full cost of private room accommodations. In such cases, patients are responsible for any daily room charges not covered by their insurer.
When you are admitted, you will be given a patient identification bracelet that must be worn for the duration of your stay.
Billing and Insurance Coverage
It is wise to consult with your insurer or employer prior to being admitted to the hospital. Your insurer's authorization prior to scheduling an inpatient stay is quite important. Your physician may need to provide your health insurer with information about your condition prior to admission. To obtain authorization, call your primary care provider or the referral department of your health plan to arrange for your stay.
Financial Arrangements
Many area insurance companies and health plans are accepted by the hospital. Any of these plans will be billed on your behalf. However, you are ultimately responsible for payment of your medical bills. At Cooley Dickinson Hospital, we accept Visa and MasterCard. If you have questions about your anticipated charges, please contact the Cashier's Office at (413) 582-2237.
