Visiting Hours

Visitors are welcome at Cooley Dickinson Hospital, and we recognize that family and friends play a critical role in the healing process. We may request that the number of visitors in your room be limited, depending on space, roommate considerations and your condition. The length of visits may be limited depending upon your condition, your wishes and the nurses' discretion. Parents of children under 12 should consult with the nursing staff before bringing them for a visit.

We urge family and friends who may be ill with a cold, the flu or other contagious illnesses not to enter the hospital. Our overriding concern is that all patients receive appropriate rest and care to speed their recovery. Visiting hours vary for different areas of the hospital. They are as follows:

  • Medical/Surgical Patients: 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  • ICU/CCU Patients: Visiting is permitted at any time by a patient's immediate family and/or significant other and is limited to two visitors at a time. Children under 12 are not permitted except under special circumstances.
  • Pediatric Patients: Parents with children in the hospital may visit any time. Others are welcome from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  • Psychiatric Unit:
    • Weekdays - 7:00 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.
    • Weekends - 1:15 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. and 7:00 p.m to 8:45 p.m.
    Childbirth Center: 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Children accompanied by an adult are welcome. However, anyone with a contagious condition, such as a cold sore, chicken pox (or recent exposure), or shingles may not visit the Childbirth Center.

Parking

Between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Cooley Dickinson Hospital offers a free and courteous valet parking service at the Main entrance.

Parking lots are available near the Locust Street and Main entrances of the hospital. There is also a lot conveniently located near the MRI department. Handicapped parking is available in all lots.

Gift Shop

Located in the lobby, the gift shop offers magazines, sundries, candy, flowers and gift items. It is operated by the Cooley Dickinson Hospital Auxiliary and run by volunteers, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday 10:00 a.m - 3:00 p.m., and Sunday, 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. All proceeds from the gift shop help support a variety of hospital patient care projects and purchases.

Guest Meals in Rooms

If you have a visitor who would like to join you for a meal in your room, please call a day ahead, if possible, to arrange it. A nominal fee is charged. Please see a nurse about such requests.

Coffee Shop

Our bright, modern coffee shop serves sandwiches, soups, snacks, beverages, doughnuts, ice cream and more. Operated by the Cooley Dickinson Hospital Auxiliary and staffed by volunteers, the coffee shop provides a relaxing environment for having a meal or just a cup of coffee. It is located in the lobby on the first floor, near the Main Entrance to the hospital. The coffee shop hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday, Sunday and holidays, 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Cafeteria

A well-equipped cafeteria offers hot meals, a salad bar and a variety of other foods and beverages during breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday. At these meal times, visitors may use the cafeteria, which is located on the lowest level of the hospital. For directions to the cafeteria, please ask your nurse. Vending service is available 24 hours a day.

Mail and Flowers

Mail or flowers sent to you at the hospital will be delivered to your room on the day they arrive. Hospital volunteers make such deliveries, usually in the afternoon. Patients in the Intensive Care or Coronary Care Units may not receive flowers for sanitary reasons.

If you wish to purchase stamps or mail letters, please ask your nurse. A mailbox for outgoing mail is located in the lobby. If mail is received after you have been discharged, it will be forwarded to you at home.
