Volunteers
Cooley Dickinson Hospital is fortunate to have community members of all ages serving as volunteers. Our volunteers offer a wide range of services to patients and staff. Volunteers serve food in the coffee shop, transport patients to treatment or diagnostic areas in the hospital, deliver mail and flowers to patients, visit with patients and assist them at mealtimes, distribute magazines or crafts projects to patients, and much more. Some volunteers provide clerical assistance to hospital departments, answer telephones, or provide information to visitors by working at the reception desks in different areas of the hospital.
Many people see volunteering as a wonderful way to meet new friends, learn new skills and help the hospital and the community. If you or a family member wish to learn more about volunteering, please call the Volunteer Services Department at (413) 582-2251.
Hearing Impaired
We can provide a range of assistive devices for the hearing-impaired. Items available include TTD, volume-controlled handsets for the telephone and a television decoder. We can also provide interpreter services for the deaf. Please ask your nurse.
Sight Impaired
Large-print books are available as well as books on tape. If you would like to know which titles are available, please ask your nurse.
Patient Representatives
Patient representatives are volunteers who receive special training in facilitating patient concerns. They can assist in almost any difficulty you may encounter during your stay by directing your concern to the appropriate department or individual. If you would like to speak with a patient representative, please call the Volunteer Services Department at (413) 582-2251.
Requesting Information, Assistance or Interpreters in Another Language
The hospital will make every effort to coordinate interpreter services for non-English speaking patients. Services are more easily arranged if they are requested at the time a visit to the hospital is planned. Please call the Case Management Department at (413) 582-2248 to learn more about these services. Some hospital literature is available in Spanish upon request.
