Dr. Holly Michaelson is Chief of Surgery and the director of minimally invasive and robotic surgery at Cooley Dickinson Hospital. A graduate of Temple University Medical School, she completed a general surgical residency at Drexel University College of Medicine and earned board certification from the American Board of Surgery in 2005. In 2014, Dr. Michaelson became a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), having met the highest professional standards set by the world’s largest organization of surgeons.
Dr. Michaelson has a strong professional interest in advanced minimally invasive procedures, particularly surgeries of the colon and gastrointestinal tract as well as breast surgery. Outside of work, Dr. Michaelson enjoys tennis, hiking, and equestrian sports.
Casey Fowler, APRN, is an experienced acute care nurse practitioner and an instrumental member of our surgical team. Born and raised in Northampton, she is a graduate of Northampton High School. She joined the Navy where she served as a Navy Corpsman in San Diego and on the USS Holland (AS-32), then returned home to attend nursing school.
Having graduated from Our Lady of the Elms College with a bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Casey earned a master’s degree from the Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program at UMass-Worcester’s Graduate School of Nursing. In addition to providing expert post-op care for general surgery patients, Casey performs a range of dermatological procedures, including the removal of cysts, lipomas, and skin/subcutaneous lesions for lab testing. She also specializes in the treatment of abscess and cellulitis.
Committed to “providing all patients with appropriate care in a timely manner,” Casey is also the mother of 2 very active boys. She spends much of her time watching various sporting events. She teaches aerobics to staff members at 22 Atwood Drive to help others get in/stay in shape. She also enjoys tending to her various flower gardens at home on her
Dr. Michelle Helms earned her medical degree from Rutgers University, New Jersey Medical School. She completed a general surgery internship at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey, and a general surgery residency at Morristown Medical Center in Morristown, New Jersey.
Dr. Helms’ particular surgical interests include benign and malignant breast conditions, thyroid and parathyroid disease, skin cancers, gallbladder disease, colon and rectal conditions, emergency surgical maladies, hernias, wounds, and laparoscopic surgery in general.
Dr. Helms strives to create a “reassuring and comfortable experience” for her patients, and one that is “founded on mutual trust and respect.” New to the practice in 2016, she looks forward to serving new patients, providing excellent care, and integrating into a wonderful community.
