Hospice Nurse Charlene: Listening is My Best Skill

Being a Hospice Nurse is a formidable job. In an emotional sense, caring for someone every day who is nearing the end of their life can be incredibly challenging, but also incredibly rewarding. Hospice RN Charlene Vinton says that one of the most important things you can do is listen:

“Sometimes people just need you to hear – you know, just a shoulder, and someone to listen to what they’ve been through, the road that they’ve traveled… it’s often not even what you do, it’s just being there and listening.”

Charlene also confirms the importance of compassionate care when working in Hospice:

“I just really enjoy helping people, helping them in this really sensitive, hard time in their life. It’s a wonderful thing.”
