Since its inception in 1904, the Cooley Dickinson Hospital Auxiliary has played a critical role in making Cooley Dickinson the special place that it is. Its mission is to support patient and volunteer services, advocate for the hospital, and raise funds for hospital services, programs, and campaigns.
In uniquely meaningful ways, members commit to maintaining Cooley Dickinson as an excellent community resource. Many volunteer at the Coffee Shop, Gift Shop, and throughout the hospital. Others arrange for the monthly installation of local artists’ works or create the opportunity for community members to honor loved ones with lights, displayed in the hospital’s Healing Garden, through the annual Trees of Love & Thanksgiving event.
Many of these acts of giving then give again.
“Because all profits are donated directly to the hospital, when you make a purchase at the Coffee and Gift Shops you are also supporting your community hospital,” said Charonne Masters, who has managed the Gift Shop for 15 years and has volunteered for 25 years. “We are here for everyone in the community. You don’t have to be a patient or visiting a patient to shop with us. Everyone is welcome!”
Most recently, the Auxiliary generously contributed $600,000 to the Building Our Future campaign. The donation is split between the two campaign initiatives: the comprehensive cancer center and the nurse development program.
Robin Kline, director of Volunteer Services said, “The Auxiliary’s financial gifts bolster the hospital's ability to deepen and extend the level of care it provides. They are an amazing group that holds the cause of helping their community close to their hearts.”
