Arbor House

Arbor House provides short term, transitional support services for individuals in the very early stages of recovery from alcohol and other drug abuse. The program philosophy is that people do best maintaining sobriety when they have a safe place to live, proper nutrition and help in designing their permanent recovery program and further treatment options.

Arbor House is a large family-style home located near the center of Holyoke and close to Route 90 (Mass. Turnpike) and Route 91. The house was renovated to afford 25 men and women privacy as well as room for group meetings, common activities and meals.

Referrals for the program come from detoxification settings and acute residential programs, as well as homeless shelters throughout Western Massachusetts. Men and women accepted into the program must be 18 years or older.

Our Services
Arbor House offers the following services in conjunction with lodging and meal service:
  • Medical screening and health education with our nurse practitioner;
  • Individual assistance through intensive case management in planning for next-step recovery work or treatment options;
  • A structured schedule consisting of psychoedu-cational groups and life skill activities;
  • Alcoholics Anonymous/Narcotics Anonymous meetings;
  • Recreational activities;
  • Peer support;
  • Transportation to and from medical, legal or other necessary appointments;
  • Referral to recovery homes, therapeutic community or other treatment settings;
  • Referral to outpatient settings for individual, couples, group, or family sessions;
  • Referral for medical and dental care.
Participants get together several times a day for peer support.

Arbor House Transitional Support Services is funded by the Department of Public Health. All services are free of charge to all individuals.

The Program is accessible to persons with disabilities.
