Approximately 89 percent of mothers at the Birthing Center breastfeed their babies. Whether you breastfeed or bottle feed, we will support whatever option you choose.

If you breastfeed your baby, full breastfeeding services are available at the Cooley Dickinson Childbirth Center including:

• Breastfeeding group taught by certified lactation consultants.
• Lactation staff is available to answer questions even before your baby is born.
• The maternity nurses have advanced training to help you find the proper technique for you and your baby and to answer your questions.

Cooley Dickinson also has a registered nurse/ certified lactation consultant on staff to assist you should any problems arise while in the hospital.

Lactation services that are available once you have returned home include:

• Help by telephone. Many questions can be answered by phone. Please call 582-2096.
• For concerns requiring a visit, we offer insurance billed, private consults and financial assistance.
• Free breastfeeding group/ baby weight check hosted by a certified lactation consultant every Monday from noon-1:30.

Information discussed includes but not limited to: latching, pumping basics, introducing bottles, introducing family foods, allergies, weaning.

• Medela Symphony pumps available to rent by the day or month.
• Full line of Medela pumps and products are available, including camisoles and bras. Fittings by appointment.
