Emergency Room and Fast Track

Cooley Dickinson Hospital’s ER is open 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. All ER patients are seen by physicians who are board certified in emergency medicine, and ER staff coordinate care with each patient’s doctor.

In addition to the ER, Cooley Dickinson offers a Fast Track, a dedicated unit within the ER that is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. In Fast Track, patients with minor medical emergencies receive prompt care. The same highly qualified teams of physicians work in Fast Track and provide the same level of care that is offered in the ER.

Turn-around time for diagnostic studies is quicker as imaging studies or blood work/lab studies are located in the ER, and our walk-in to walk-out time for all ER patients is under three hours.

The ER is supported by Cooley Dickinson’s surgical services and critical care unit, laboratory/specimen collection and state-of-the-art imaging services which can provide a complex level of care, including access to board-certified intensivists, physicians who specialize in critical care medicine.

In addition, the ER has access to multidisciplinary healthcare teams that can be mobilized in minutes to respond to life-threatening conditions. Neurologists, cardiologists, orthopedic surgeons and other specialists are available to evaluate patients as needed.

Our staff are committed to taking care of all community members, regardless of their ability to pay.

Cooley Dickinson is certified by the Department of Public Health as a primary stroke center.
