“If I’m seen by your midwives, where will I deliver my baby?”
Our births take place at Cooley Dickinson Hospital’s lovely, family-centered Childbirth Center.
“If I come to a midwife, do I have to go without pain medication in labor?”
Our birthing women have many options for pain relief in labor, one of which is the use of medication/epidural anesthesia.
“What if complications occur?”
We work closely with our medical director to formulate a plan with you that focuses on your individual issues. If problems occur in labor, a board-certified OB is immediately available, and we will care for you with his/her input and involvement.
“Can I see a midwife if I'm not pregnant?”
Yes, we see women for a range of gynecologic care including annual exams, pap smears, family planning, and other issues that could arise during the course of a woman's life.
About the Childbirth Center
Women deliver at the Childbirth Center in a labor and delivery room.
Cooley Dickinson’s birthing rooms are an ideal place to labor and birth your child. Each birthing room has a rocking chair, a telephone, a television, an AM-FM-CD stereo and a private bath outfitted with a labor Jacuzzi.
Your baby can stay right with you after birth and an overhead warmer can be rolled over to your bed so that you can hold your baby while both of you are bathed in comforting warmth. Should you require a cesarean birth, you will remain within the Childbirth Center. The same nursing staff will accompany you just across the hall to a more specialized delivery room.
