Welcome to the Cooley Dickinson Hospital. The collaboration of our staff, physicians and volunteers is at the core of Cooley Dickinson's goal of becoming a model for how patient care is delivered at our nation's community hospitals.
Pre-Op Recovery Area
The Pre-Operative/Recovery Area and nurses' station is located within the Kittredge Surgery Center.
da Vinci Robot with Surgeons
In July Cooley Dickinson introduced the Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery Program at the Kittredge Surgery Center. The da Vinci S allows surgeons to perform precise movements using micro-instruments within a patient's operative site. Minimally invasive surgical procedures offer many benefits to patients including less pain, smaller incisions and a quicker return to normal activities.
Young@Heart Chorus Painting
This painting commemorating Northampton's Young@Heart chorus helps patients and visitors find their way within the halls of the hospital. Pictured here with his painting is artist Greg Stone.
North 3 Medical Surgical Nurses' Station
With the construction of the North Building, a wing of 32 single patient rooms was added.
Joint Replacement Center Nurses' Station
Cooley Dickinson is the only area hospital that offers a center that is dedicated to joint replacement surgery, recovery and rehabilitation. Board-certified orthopedic surgeons are skilled in the latest advances in hip and knee replacement including minimal incision and tissue sparing surgical techniques as well as the Oxford partial knee system.
Joint Replacement Center Single Room
Patients have surgery on Monday and participate in both group and individual physical therapy throughout the week. Most patients are discharged home on Friday.
Central Sterile Processing Unit
Also located in the lower level is the Central Sterile Processing department. Here, instruments and tools used for surgery and invasive procedures are cleaned and sterilized. This area also houses disposable sterile instruments and supplies.
Wood Chip Plant and Stack
Cooley Dickinson is the only hospital in Western Massachusetts to heat and cool its facilities using a renewable resource, wood chips. This facility was constructed in 1985. Burning wood chips saves Cooley Dickinson Hospital approximately $1,000 a day. This savings is then used to hire staff and improve the facilities.
Second Wood Chip Plant
As part of the North Building and Kittredge Surgery Center construction project, a second wood chip burning facility was built.
